The Flee Among the Lions

I never been so happy to be wrong – it so happens I only failed to predict that Brazil would loose to France… but I did put a question mark on that game...
I think all previous results were fair, although it could easily have gone either way (except Brazil – for shame!).

Best of all, of course, Portugal is in the semi-final, and the English will go back to their gloomy island, for the satisfaction of the world and relieve of the German Police!

It wasn’t a pretty game, both teams were fearful of each other, both teams were equally strong, although the absence of Deco was screamingly evident.
Sometimes it looked more like we were playing against Luxembourg (with all the respect), with England defending with 10 men behind the ball…
In the end, it was dejavu once again, with Ricardo saving this time 3 penalties!!! A world cup record!
In an act of absolute lunacy, though, FIFA's pompously named “Study group” or whatever, awards to Hargreaves (simply, the player with more fouls committed in the game) the FIFA “beer-mug” – come to think of it, rightly so, as we all know the English are more the drinking type than the Portuguese; besides, Ricardo needs a bigger CUP for the celebration Champaign!
No matter what, we are already winners, 40 years on we are back in the best 4 and we can still improve on our best mark – the 3rd place!

Of course, the next game is against France, and I think it’s fair to say the “old geezers” are favourites, for all their experience, past history and seemingly better physical shape.
Nevertheless, Portugal still has a word to say, and I hope it will be “Victory”!

In the other match, I will let my emotion speak as well, ‘cause I prefer to see Germany in the final, preferably against Portugal! But one never knows with Italy, a sleazy team. Hopefully, they won’t give the hosts a heartbreak. (Having already felt such heartbreak, the Portuguese are more qualified to do that…).

The flee is among the Lions – the only team from the 4 never to have been Word Cup winner, is still fighting and showing the real teamgeist! Just like France, we haven’t been underestimating our adversaries…
Looks like the title of this blog may still have some meaning after all…
